YOU could help young people in Bradford get a much better start in life – interested in volunteering? BDAT is a Diocesan Multi Academy Trust. We are looking for civic-minded and skilled individuals like you to champion and challenge our work. This is your chance to make a difference!
What is an academy? Academies are state schools funded directly by central Government rather than run by local authorities. Academies have more freedom to decide certain things for themselves. For example, they can control their own curriculum and finances, and decide how long terms and school days will be.
Who is BDAT? Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust was set up in 2012 to support and sponsor Church of England Academies in Bradford on behalf of the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. Since then our Trust Board has taken the resolution to welcome community schools into BDAT. We work with our schools to provide a network of support and challenge; working together we can achieve our vision of improved outcomes and results for our children and young people. BDAT is a charity and company limited by guarantee and governed by a board of Trustees who are responsible for, and oversee the management of the company.
What do we need from you? We want your skills, strategic thinking and willingness to challenge and push us harder. We believe in effective and independent governance at Trust and local academy level.
We could really do with you on one of our Local Governing Bodies. We are looking for skills/expertise in finance, strategy, law, HR, data analysis, risk management, health and safety, marketing and finance. And we have scope for new governors in our academies.
Experience of the education sector would be a bonus but is certainly not essential. Joining one of our Local Governing Bodies would involve you in:
- 2-3 meetings per term, three terms a year – meetings take place at the academy and dates/times are scheduled around members’ availability as far as possible
- 2 – 3 classroom visits or similar per year during school hours
- Occasional other events e.g. to meet parents or governors from other schools
What will you get out of it? Aside from the buzz of making a difference to young people? You can:
- develop/broaden/deepen your expertise in another context
- Team-building and team-working skills
- network with other professionals and community leaders
