I began my career working in the NHS as one of two training officers for Leeds Teaching Hospitals. It was a great start not least because I was able to design and deliver training programmes but because that's where I gained my qualification in training and development. The job was exciting as it co-incided with the introduction of Trust status within the NHS so there was a significant sense of change in the air!
I went on to work as Training Manager for Clariant, a global speciality chemicals company and was fortunate to be able to spend 3 months in Sweden supporting their change management and training for SAP. Although I loved training I wanted to do more so I took the role of HR Manager in the same company covering multiple sites. During my time there I led work associated with mergers and acquisitions, change management and site closures. I loved the variety of work and the spirit of the teams at each site, but after several years it was time to stretch my wings and so I took up the role as Head of HR for Allied Glass. It was a great opportunity to become closely involved in the running of an extremely successful owner managed business and it taught me a lot about profit lines and operating efficiency. I re-established and modernised the HR function enabling us to support the business at a strategic and tactical level as it managed it's ambitious growth plans. After Allied Glass I returned to the corporate world where I spent 5 years operating in senior HR leadership positions within Safran, a global aerospace company based in the north west. There I had the opportunity to formulate our HR strategy, develop a positive employee relations climate and shape the landscape for employee reward and recognition. It was an incredibly rewarding time however I sensed it was time to bring all of my skills, energy and experience to a business of my own - that's when I founded Indigo People Solutions - it's been one of the best decisions that I've made.
