How and where can Dermal Fillers help?
Here at Appearance Based Medicine, we have three main focuses: Patient Safety, Patient Satisfaction, and ensuring that we meet our motto ‘Enhancing your innate charm and natural beauty’ with every cosmetic treatment that we provide. We aren’t here to make you look ‘fake’ or unnatural – the art of the aesthetic practitioner is to be subtle, refreshing your look and helping to return your inner ‘glow’ so that you feel happier in your own skin.
There are a couple of treatments that gain a lot of media coverage when they go wrong, or are administered without sensitivity or delicacy or by unqualified practitioners – these treatments include wrinkle relaxing treatments, such as Botox® (we’ve all seen an A-list celeb or two who appear to have no movement whatsoever in their face, creating a constant look of surprise), and ‘Lip fillers’ (the infamous ‘trout-pout’). At Appearance Based Medicine, as with all of our treatments, the use of Dermal Fillers is carefully considered, and we will only proceed with this treatment option following an initial consultation with the customer, and once we, and the customer, are happy that this is the appropriate treatment choice for them.
Dermal fillers are used to replace volume in areas where, as we age and the production of collagen and elastin in our cells reduces, the skin has lost its fullness and elasticity – areas like the cheeks, as well as the lips. Dermal Fillers can also help to soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles, making them a popular and effective way of treating nose to mouth grooves, lipstick lines etc., without affecting movement in the face like some other wrinkle relaxing treatments can.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the most common issues that people are concerned about with Dermal Fillers is the issue of overfilling – the cause of the dreaded ‘trout pout’ – although incorrect placement and asymmetry are also problems that can occur. At Appearance Based Medicine, thanks to my comprehensive training and many years of experience administering treatments such as Dermal Fillers, I work extremely hard to prevent these issues from occurring. I advise patients to go slow at first when it comes to fillers, and not ask for too dramatic a change because it is much easier to add more product at a later date than it is to remove what has already been injected! I also advise patients not to touch or play with their injection sites post-procedure, as this can also have a negative impact on both the look and final location of the fillers.
As with all injectable treatments, there is a small risk of an allergic reaction or other unwanted side effects occurring during or post procedure – another issue that I work exceptionally hard to address. All patients have an initial consultation with me prior to any treatment. This consultation allows me to take a detailed medical history (helping me to establish whether the treatment is appropriate from a medical perspective), and to give pre- and post- treatment and aftercare advice (helping to ensure that the treatment is as effective as possible, and giving an idea of what to look out for in terms of side-effects, etc.). Patient safety is our primary concern at Appearance Based Medicine, and I will do everything that I can to ensure that the risks of unwanted side effects are reduced, wherever possible.
If you are considering Dermal Fillers, why not take a look at our Dermal Fillers Webpage as well as our FAQ’s page, which gives greater detail about some of the potential side effects from treatment with Dermal Fillers. You can also make an appointment for a Consultation to discuss this (or any other) treatment in detail, and establish whether this is a suitable treatment option for you – phone 01628 303020 or email [email protected] today for more information.
