How to have a peaceful pup by Karen Scott

Meet the Business Woman Behind Peaceful Pups …….

Your name? Karen Scott

Your business name? Peaceful Pups

How long have you been in business? 14 months

What do you love most about your job? Helping people learn how easy it is to make a change in their puppy’s behaviour.  Seeing their amazement

Your claim to fame? I appeared on Cambridge Star Radio pet show every week when they were running it.

Your first childhood memory? Playing in my garden in Walthamstow (I moved away from there when I was 4). I remember the steps up to the house above.

How long have you been a member of WIBN and why did you join? 2 months, to get to know other business owners.

Most frightening film and why? No idea. Hated Titanic and said I would never watch it again because of the nanny sitting on the bunk with her charges.  Also didn’t like ‘The Perfect Storm’ with George Clooney going down with his boat.

What sort of training did you have before going into this business? I did a number of Dog Training Instructor Courses, but I started when I left school in the 1970’s and have dipped in and out ever since.

What advice would you give someone who wants to set up their own business? Find someone to mentally support you, someone who will listen and you can bounce idea off. Learn as much as you can about marketing and then cash flow

Who is the most interesting person you have met? Not sure – most recently, a dog showing Judge. I learnt a great deal from her about dog movement.

What is the last book you read? I am a bookaholic and always have around 4 books on the go. I finished 2 the same day recently. ‘Bounce’ by Matthew Syed and ‘What to say when you talk to yourself’ by Shad Helmstetter.

What is the best thing that someone has said about you and your business? I am the best dog trainer they have ever met.  I somehow know how to read the dog and their owner

Hindsight is a wonderful thing – what one thing would you do differently? Advertise my way out of the slow time instead of do what my accountant said and pare everything down. That was a death knell for many reasons.

If you could be a super hero, what would you want your superpowers to be? Not sure I would want a super power, a magic wand is more my ideal.

How would you describe your business in three words? Puppy Training Harmony

How have things changed for your business over the past few years? Still growing, but I have changed

What is the greatest challenge in running a business? Keeping going

What are your plans for the future? A country wide puppy training business

What’s the best thing about being a member of WIBN? Contact with other business women.
