PROCESSIONS is a mass participation artwork taking place simultaneously across the UK’s four capitals. On Sunday 10th June, women and girls (including those who identify as woman and non-binary) in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London will walk together to form a living portrait of women today. Given cotton wraps in green, white or violet, the colours of the suffragettes, and choreographed into bands, together participants will appear as a flowing river of colour through the city streets. The picture below demonstrates our ambition.
At the centre of these processions will be handmade contemporary banners echoing those carried by the suffrage movement, which will voice the hopes and concerns of women today. Participants can make these at home using a special toolkit or at banner-making workshops taking place across the UK in advance of 10th June.
Public registration is now open to take part in PROCESSIONS at www.processions.co.uk.
