Why the next quarter matters for your business
After the distractions of the summer holidays, it can be hard to get back into the swing of things in September. Many business owners face a period of readjustment as everyday routines get back to normal, and September can be a busy time for events, new initiatives and campaigns. Before we know it, we are hurtling towards Christmas!
But the last quarter of the year is a vital time for your business. Making the most of those precious months from October to December can ensure you finish on a high and start 2019 with a bang. So, once the dust has settled, it’s worth setting aside a few hours to take stock and plan where to focus your attention for the coming months. This could include:
Reviewing your priorities
What’s left on your to-do list for 2018? What are the biggest priorities? What would make the most difference to your business? Are there tasks that have been lurking on your list for a long time? Were you hoping to do some training, or learn a new skill?
It could be a good time to bring in extra resources to get those tasks done, so you end the year well with a strong sense of achievement.
Checking your financial health
Ideally, you’ll have a handle on your business finances throughout the year, but it’s a good time to take stock and see how your business is performing. It means you can focus your attention where it is needed most for the last few months – chasing any outstanding payments, giving your marketing an extra push, or following up with potential clients.
Boosting your networking
It’s not too late to visit or join a WIBN group, where you can build new business relationships with like-minded women. Visiting a new group is a great way to find out if it is the right fit for your business and everyone is incredibly welcoming – so don’t hesitate to ask me about any of my groups.
Have a look at what else you could do to boost your networking in the last quarter. If you are already a WIBN member, think about who you would like to work with from your group and arrange some 1-to-1s to get to know people better. You could also join in the weekly #WIBNHOUR on twitter (8-9pm Wednesdays) to interact with people across the network.
Setting your goals for 2019
As we get nearer to the end of the year, it’s vital to review key aspects of your business. What went well for you in 2018? What didn’t go so well? What do you need to change to make 2019 even better?
This will help you to set your goals for 2019, so you can hit the ground running in January. There are some fantastic experts in our WIBN groups who can help you plan more effectively. You could book yourself in for a coaching session or a vision board workshop to help you set out a clear path for your business.
Celebrating your accomplishments
At the end of the year, it’s important to take time out for a treat, to celebrate what you have achieved and to thank your team for their efforts. Even if you are a sole trader, it’s important to have some time to let your hair down! You could suggest getting together with other WIBN members for a joint celebration, sharing your successes and your goals for the year ahead.
So rather than keeping your head down delivering the day job right up until Christmas Eve, try to set some time aside to review where you are with your business and to plan your year ahead. It can be a simple process which doesn’t take too long, but it could make a huge difference to your business. You’ll head into the festive period feeling a sense of relief that you are on top of things and you’ll look forward to 2019 with a clear sense of purpose.
